Have you ever had moments in your life that seemed so bizarre, that you wondered if God were sending you a personal message? I am told that this is a “God Wink.” So what do we do with that? How does it happen? The key is being so in tune with His voice that we are always paying attention to what He might have to say in all of our circumstances. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight. ~Proverbs 3:6

Before I share with you though, keep in mind a couple of words of caution to make sure any message is truly from Yahweh, by dream, word of knowledge from a friend, etc. First of all, scripture is the ultimate authority. God will never confirm an activity or decision that goes against what His Word says about how to live life.

Second, take it for what it is, He is telling you that He knows your situation, what you are going through, to trust Him and to lean not on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5) If you are making a serious life changing decision, two or three witnesses is good Biblical advice. I have received confirmation from a bumper sticker which said , “pray hard” (another story for another day), so make sure it is scripturally based and always ask God for confirmation.

I will be sharing God winks from time to time because they are always encouraging and I know someone needs to hear it. So here is the first one: I enjoy gardening and watching plants grow. I am always so amazed at the resilience of some plants to come back each Spring after seeming to be dead through the Winter.

In 2015, just after my late husband went to be with the Lord, I spent a good bit of quiet time working in my flower garden. The purple Clematis may have been a funeral gift, I cannot remember, but I bought a special trellis for it and decided to plant it in front of my heating/air unit to make the entrance to my porch a little more inviting. I was so looking forward to watching it grow and bloom.

Not long after that, I had to have some work done on my heating/air unit and the trellis was in the way….., you know where this is going, mud, big man work boots and all. My poor little plant was crushed and mushed and I was still crushed and mushed in mourning. The work man was already gone by the time I realized what had happened. It really was not his fault. He was merely doing his job. So I gave up on that plant for awhile and focused on some others, but I couldn’t bear to disturb the little muddy mess.

A few weeks later, I went out to water, and really, “lo and behold,” in my remembering mind I think the clouds literally may have parted and angels began to sing, a tiny green leaf. I thought to myself, “NO WAY,” it must be some other kind of plant, but I nurtured it anyway. He heard my grief! He knew what I needed to see and hear and He showed me His love and compassion in a unique and personal way. Well, you see the photo above. I still call it, and any other Clematis, my hope vine and yes, also a recurring God wink each year along with the other beautiful plants in my garden.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. ~Psalm 34:18
